In Recovery I can think of few things as rewarding as regaining the ability to laugh.
So much of our life is in chaos when we first walk through the doors
that we can only concentrate on holding on. We look around the room and
see people laughing, sometimes at the most astounding things, and think to ourselves
that we will never be able to do that. Of course, if we stick around,
and work the program, it is not long before we are joining in, laughing, kidding,
joking and having fun like everyone else. Recovery is a deadly serious
business, but it is also about learning to again have fun, as a child has fun,
easily, soberly and honestly. I hope you find some things to laugh at
here, and if you have something for me to include, please e-mail it to me. As it says in the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous...."Outsiders are
sometimes shocked when we burst into merriment over a seemingly tragic experience
out of the past. But why shouldn't we laugh? We have recovered,
and have been given the power to help others." |
